Y-Indian Princesses/Maidens
Wihinapa Longhouse
Registration - $9.00/Daughter, $5.00/Parent
Registration Due- February 1, 1999

The purpose of the Pinewood derby is to provide the opportunity for father/mother and daughter to work together in the building of a pinewood car, and to enjoy friendly racing against other princesses.

The Pinewood Derby event remains one of the favorite events of both parents and daughters; providing a rewarding experience and memories that will last a lifetime. While the event is competitive, winning is a secondary consideration to the positive aspects of participating. Every princess will earn a trophy for completing their special racer, with special trophies going to those daughters who win in the catagories of speed, most creative, most unusual, and best of show. In addition to their trophies, many girls will keep their cars at home for years as a reminder of the fun they had with their parents. Parents will race for speed, with only the top finishers receiving trophies.

  1. Registrations must be received in advance in order to participate.
  2. All cars must be newly constructed for this event. Last year's cars are not admissible. Integrity system applies.
  3. All princesses will compete under the same set of rules. Parents will declare the rules they will compete under; standard class(same as daughters) or "extreme" racers (explained later.
  4. Maximum weight is 5.0 oz. as measured by the scale at the weigh-in table. Cars not conforming at the weigh-in may be modified (a table with simple tools will be provided) and re-weighed up to two additional times. After a car is officially weighed in, no additional lubrication or alterations to the car are allowed.
  5. Only bodies, wheels, and axles provided with registration may be used.
  6. Wheelbase(distance between fore and aft axles)may not be changed from those originally cut into the car body.
  7. Width between wheels (side to side) must be 1 3/4", and bottom clearance must be 3/8". All wheels must be touching the ground. (Cars not conforming to these specs will not properly fit over the lane strip on the track, and will either get "hung up" or will "jump the track")
  8. No washers, bearings, springs, or shaped wheels may be used. Wheel surfaces may be sanded flat and smooth, but surface areas that touch the track must be flat and the full, original width. Only dry lubricants may be used, and axles cannot be modified in any way.
  9. Technical issues may be appealed to the host tribe at the time of inspection. Obvious rules violations may be protested at any time. The decision of the host tribe in such matters is final.
  10. During the race, the decisions of the starting and finish line judges are final and not subject to protest or discussion. (Good Sportsmanship and Respect are the values we're teaching).
  11. Any car not complying to these rules will be allowed to race, but will not be eligible to win speed related awards.
  12. "Extreme" rules: Disregard all of the above, except #'s 1, 7, 10, and 11; Maximum weight will be 9 oz.; and the cars cannot be "powered" in any way.

Registration Fees listed above include: Car Kits (Wood, Wheels, and Axles). Official car numbers will be assigned with the kits. These numbers will be placed on the car (any place the racer chooses), and will serve as the racer's unique ID for "RACEDAY"
