You've just finished seeing the Saturday matinee of "Nine to Five" at the Pacific 4 Theater and
grabbed a quick meatball sandwich at Perry's Pizza. Now it's time to settle in for a little
shopping at the Ridgemont Mall. Don't waste all your money on scalped Van Halen tickets and Pac Man. There are
better "Fast Times" things to buy...
The Laserdisk, Videocassette, and Soundtrack CD

All of these have been released by MCA/Universal for public sale and can be found at most
local music/video stores in the United States at reasonable prices. For those people who
can't find the video, soundtrack CD, or laserdisk locally, you can order these items over the
internet at places like CDNow. If you are ordering the video from outside the United States,
make sure the recording format is compatible with your VCR (most U.S. videos are in the NTSC format while most
other countries primarily use the PAL format).
Those Cool Spicoli Sneakers

Want to get a pair of those cool slip-on sneakers with the black and white
checkerboard pattern that Spicoli wore? Believe it or not, they are still made by Vans. The model you
want is 00119. The are officially called "Classic Slip-ons in Black/White Checkerboard
Pattern". Supposedly you can find them, or have them ordered for you, at any shoe store
that carries Vans sneakers. To find a Vans dealer near you, call 1-800-750-8267. If you
would like to order via phone with a credit card, you can call Expressions, Vans' exclusive mail order
dealer, at 1-800-797-8447. Expressions is located in the Westgate Mall in Brainerd, MN.
Ordering sneakers from them will cost you $38 plus $5 postage and handling. I successfully purchased a pair of these
sneakers from Expressions using this method myself. A must-have
for singing Wooly Bully on stage in the gym.
The Good Book

This one is a toughie. The novel "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" by Cameron Crowe has been
out of print for a number of years. Your only chance of finding one is on the "used book"
market. I got mine (the "post-movie" softback shown above on the right) at The Strand bookstore in
New York City. I know at least one individual who found a perfect copy of the "pre-movie" hardback
edition (shown above left) for $8.50 at Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon.
They have searching capability on their web page so you may want to give it a try. Otherwise, keep your
eyes open at local used book stores, charity book sales, etc. Good luck. The book is well worth the
trouble to find.
Movie Posters
There are a lot of businesses hawking movie posters on the WWW. I found two originals on
The Movie Poster Page. One is the classic most people are familiar with (same photo as on the yellow book cover above). The other
is a pre-release teaser poster done in the style of a comic book with illustrations (since no photos were yet available). The former cost me $22 and the
latter cost me $30. I was very happy with the service I received from the guy who runs The Movie Poster Page. Another
internet movie poster dealer is The Movie Poster Warehouse. I don't have any experience with these guys.
Movie Stills

Production still photographs can be found both on and off the internet. I have purchased several and they have run
anywhere from $1 to $5 each. The two sources I have been successful with are American
Pie Collectables and Jerry Ohlinger's Movie Material Store in New York City. The address of the latter is 242 West 14th Street, New York,
NY 10011. Their phone number is (212) 989-0869.
T-Shirts
Recently I found a T-shirt store in a mall near my house (Upstate NY) that was selling a couple of "Fast Times" T-shirts. One depicted the scene where Mr. Hand is giving
Jeff Spicoli the evil eye after the delivery boy plants a take-out pizza on Spicoli's desk. On the back of the shirt are the words "If I'm here and you're here, doesn't that make
it our time?" The second shirt has a picture of Brad in his Capt. Hook Fish and Chips uniform on the front and the words "Doesn't anyone $^&(*$# knock anymore?" on the back.
The shirts were produced by Scene Not Herd in New York City. They claim to be the only firm licensed to make FT@RH shirts but they currently have no web site and only sell through retailers.
I have contacted them about providing a list of retailers but until then you will have to try to find their products
a local mall/shop the way I did.
Other Places to Look for Fast Times Collectables
A couple of other places you may want to look for "Fast Times" memoribilia include the following:
Note: Caveat Emptor. I cannot be responsible if any of these sources stiff you on a sale. When I have dealt with them
successfully, I have so stated. If you have any suggestions for other sources to be listed in the Ridgemont Mall,
please e-mail me. I will not post any sources known to be selling
bootleg merchandise.
