Columbus International Festival, November 8-9, 2008
Veteran's Memorial Auditorium, Columbus

Scandinavian Club of Columbus at the International Festival

by Michael Lindner.

The Scandinavian Club of Columbus enjoyed a successful participation in the annual International Festival in Columbus, Ohio Nov. 8 – 9,  2007. We won first prize for the Education category thanks in large part to all who helped create the giftboxes demonstrating the 8 UN Goals. We also received a $50 certificate toward our booth next year.

Our success was accomplished by the hard work of our booth designers. Michael Lindner, designed our own little Christmas village, with the decorated tree towering high above us, and attracting much attention from festival goers. Much help came from James & Inger Gilbert, Åke & Ingrid Hellström, Grete Davidsen & Ed Kidwell, Norma Johnson, Harry & Carol Wickstrom, Päivi Rajala-Schultz, Terry Carlson, Reidun Villella, Blaine & Anne Marie Hoalst, Carol & Ed Savolaine, Debbie & Haley Skarsten, Lynn Kantner, Helen McBride. Many volunteers came in folk costume and carried the flags for the parade of nations. (You can find more pictures from the festival and the booth here).

Theme

The UN-Festival theme this year was UN Milleneum Goals. This was an opportunity for club members to create 'Gift boxes' for under our tree, each demonstrating one of the goals. The vignettes of the 8 UN Boals were designed by Steinn/Kristin Jonsson, Åke/Ingrid Hellström, Kaitlin kilkka, Päivi Rajala-Schultz/JJ Schultz, Michael Lindner, Sharon Carlson, Carol/Ed Savolaine, and Dave/Lynn Kantner.

Visitors could enjoy a variety of tasty items from the booth, as well as, see some crafts and cooking demonstrations. Our own Lucia even joined us for the Parade of Nations.
