Columbus International Festival, November 3-4, 2007 Veteran's Memorial Auditorium, Columbus
Scandinavian
Club of Columbus at the International Festival
by Michael Lindner, Inger Gilbert.
The Scandinavian Club of Columbus enjoyed a
successful participation in the annual International Festival in
Columbus, Ohio Nov. 3 – 4, 2007.
We received the most coveted prize, Honorable Mention in All
Categories, said the UN representative,
when we accepted the white ribbon at the
ceremony. We also received a $50
certificate toward our booth next year.
Our success was accomplished by the hard work of our booth designers. Michael
Lindner, with help from Glenn Kranking, built a Stave Church above our booths, a very impressive structure
towering high above us, and attracting much attention from festival goers. Åke
Hellström and his wife Ingrid helped with the Stave Church, as well as creating a video,
which ran continuously with pictures of the club and its many members having fun together. (You can find out more about the design and construction of the booth here).
The UN-Festival theme this year was Peace Through Understanding. This was an obvious opportunity to showcase a display of the history of the Nobel Peace Prize. We absolutely embodied that concept, as we have done in years past.
Visitors could enjoy a variety of tasty items from the booth, as well as, see some crafts and cooking demonstrations.
Visitors at the Festival again could enjoy the tasty Salmon Chowder.
The Blue Ribbon treat could
not have materialized without the arduous,
year-round work of Norma Johnson and
her kitchen crew at the Chopping Party.
