Pictures from summer 2009. Videos from picnic 2009. In 2006 it was hosted by past President Johan Farstad at his home. It's a great picnic with a large tent and activities for singles, families... everyone. The tradition of dancing around the Midsommarstång (Midsummer Pole) is enacted every year. The flags of the Scandinavian countries are a part of it, on top and at the base of the pole. Since this is a Scandinavian-American organization, the American Flag is included in the group. Members use greenery and flowers to decorate the pole. The pole is a way to be exhilarant over the fact that it's summer. So's the dancing. The crowd for dinner includes everyone from stroller age up. Folks bring tables and chairs and eat in the tent, under the trees or wherever they're comfortable. Inger Gilbert was presented with a gift of appreciation, as the outgoing president. Club members serve voluntary three-year terms on the board of directors. During her three years Inger served two years as dinner chair and her third year as president. Both are very demanding jobs, but she made them look easy, perhaps because the club received the services of her husband James as a bonus. The dancers kept at it for quite a while. Click on the picture to see it in full size. Kids had a great time. They caught a turtle in the lake and posed for a picture before they released it. This year the bonfire included a witch, a Danish tradition added to the Norwegian tradition of the bonfire. Two club members pose here with the witch before it was put on the fire. Then, at dark, the bonfire was lit.
