We lived in Columbus for five years (1995-2000). Here's a list of what we liked.
There were quite a few we liked. The Old Bag of Nails is bar-like, fried grouper sandwich was our favorite. We went to the Grandview location. Thai Orchid had some good curries, such as the King of Five curry. The Thai Taste had some good hot soups, we are still looking for something as good in Ann Arbor (which may be Tuptims on Washtenaw Avenue). We also liked chicken vindaloo at the Bombay Grille.
There are some good trails at Highbanks, in particular the Overlook Trail. After we got Laser, we only walked the dog trail. Our favorite dog trail was at Batelle-Darby Creek.
We liked Hocking Hills, in particular Rock House. Put In Bay (South Bass Island) is good, particularly on a sunny late fall day. Millers Boat Line was our favorite. Wright-Patterson air force museum, near Dayton, is amazing and free. Dawes Arboretum is scenic on a sunny day, and you can take your dog.
With a DeLorme atlas, you can hunt down covered bridges. The one above is near Marysville.
Mohican, just south of Cleveland, made a good winter break. This might sound surprising, but walking through snow can be fun. Our favorite lodge was Salt Fork, but looked a bit run down the last time we were there (December 2001). One time in late October we saw hundreds of hawks circling near the lodge. Later, they all tried to roost in one tree.
