UNEMPLOYMENT

Reynoldsburg’s Unemployment Rate reached a record high of 9.6% this March.
The district’s first demand (November 2008) saw unemployment at 5.6% .  The good ol’ days?
The Unemployment Rate for ages 16 to 24 is still an unprecedented 52%.

Reynoldsburg hasn’t even entered into the first stage of “Fiscal Caution.” (Ohio Department of Education).

The district is promising the possibility of restoring “safe transportation… arts, music and physical education,” while threatening $3 million more in cuts.

The following identical political talking points are meant to manipulate voters.  (And since when do bureaucrats “ALLOW” us to keep our earnings?)

        A) Superintendent Dackin stated,
“We’re taking steps to place an incremental levy on the ballot to allow residents to hang on to their money for as long as possible .” (Columbus Messenger, 2/8/2010.)
        B) The levy web site states, “The District listened to the community’s concerns and made this issue incremental to allow residents to hang on to their money for as long as possible .”

THE BALLOT
 It says only 6.9 MILLS, but it adds up to 9.9 MILLS.
 The district is surpassing the total “ten-mill limitation.”
“For a continuing period of time” means it is permanent.
        (Successful companies everywhere work with annual budgets.)

FORECLOSURES

47 Reynoldsburg homes foreclosured in February of 2010 alone.
Increased foreclosures force fewer homeowners to cover the district’s budget.
These foreclosures cause the “decreases in property tax collections.”

“The 2009 HUD report… found the number of sheltered homeless families grew from about 473,000 to 517,000 .”  “When families lose their homes and relocate, their children’s schooling can be disrupted.   Some move into extended-stay hotels that cost about $175 a week, but that sometimes exposes them to criminal activity like prostitution and drug deals.”  (Associated Press, Breitbart.com 02/16/2010.)

ENJOY TAX DAY?

PROPERTY VALUES?
Failure to pass a school tax levy in Reynoldsburg did not cause property values to fall nation wide.  The recession, caused by the Community Reinvestment Act with its “good intentions,” has adversely affected property values nation wide.

LOCAL HUNGER?
Reynoldsburg Helping Hands’ vice chairman Suzanne Read said the pantry provided food to 83 families in October compared to the 50 or 60 people it serves in a normal month.  Recipients can only receive food once every six months.  “It’s just the times we’re in now. There are more people in need, so it’s hard to predict,” Read said.  (11/19/2008.)

FOOD VS. MEDICINE & UTILITIES?
The Mid-Ohio Foodbank reports that services are up about 28%, and that one of every five clients are homeowners while only 5% are homeless .  41% reported having to choose between paying for food or medicine , 57% are choosing between utilities and food .  (02/02/2010.)

GAS PRICES?
 “To meet the Obama administration’s targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, some researchers say, Americans may have to experience a sobering reality: gas at $7 a gallon.” (dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com 03/02/2010.)

TAXES & CUTS?
 “Obama, in a Feb. 9 Oval Office interview, said that a presidential commission on the budget needs to consider all options for reducing the deficit,
including tax increases
and cuts in spending on entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare.”   (BusinessWeek.com 2/11/2010.)

TAXES DOUBLED?
 “By some estimates, the tax burden on Americans could double before the end of this decade. The only question is: What form will these new taxes take?”  (Time.com 03/03/2010.)

WHAT MAKES US APPEALING?
Short-sighted residents claim the voters keep Reynoldsburg from being “attractive.”  Superintendent Dackin said a tax levy “will bring desirability to the community.”  Chip Martin said “our community will lose its appeal” without a tax hike.  Will higher taxes, increased foreclosures and irresponsible spending make us more attractive, appealing and desirable?”   Valu King (Giant Eagle) found us appealing.

SHARING IN THE PAIN?

“Gov't workers feel no economic pain: Security, wages, benefits beat private sector’s.”   Government workers are “unscathed” by the recession.  “The average government wage and salary per hour of $26.11 was 35 percent higher than the average wage and salary of $19.41 per hour in the private sector.  But the percentage difference in benefits was much higher.  Benefits for state and local workers averaged $13.49 per hour, nearly 70 percent higher than the $8 per hour in benefits paid by private business.”  (WashingtonTimes.com 03/11/2010.)

Instead of improving services for special needs students, the “district” ships them off to more expensive, more distant and less successful institutions whenever the district rankings are endangered.  (The poor and blacks are unfairly targeted.)
