Thanks a lot for clearly putting into virtual print a lot of basic CW QSO information that I couldn't find anywhere else. I found my first contacts in phone intimidating at first (but a lot of fun now), and CW QSOs I haven't even tried because it's pretty confusing with all the abbreviations and tricks like zero-beating. Thanks for the authoritative fundamentals of when, where and how to tune interesting shortwave. R.L. Drake shipped my their new R8-B last week. Although for an antenna I just have 100 ft. of shielded wire draped out the 19th floor of my apartment building in downtown Cleveland, the other end consisting of 2" stripped wire plugged into the high impedence antenna jack, reception seems to be pretty good. I wonder if an antenna tuner such as the Grove TUN 4 would help get past the noise in various portions of the 500 kHz to 30 mHz spectrum? Thanks again for your informative site!

Hello Jack, It was a pleasure visiting your web page. Just passed my extra exam, but have not worked a lot of CW in the past 20 years. I worked mostly CW back in the 50's & 60's and I was a CW operator in the military (Marines). I have been considering getting back into CW as a regular mode of operation, and after reading your web page I am certain this is a good decision. My most fond Ham memories were working CW as novice and the following years when I could only afford the old home brew CW rig--Hi. I studied the code and never really sent it. Managed to pass the test without ever sending.
