Great page, Jack. I was an intercept operator in Japan and on Okinawa from 1956 to 1959 and, in recent years have been thinking about trying to find a station from which I could copy code. WWV and WWVH are out of operation, for sending code, (I've been told), so I thought I'd ask a Ham, (my father was W9MYE till his death in 1964), and see if there is a url I can go to, who broadcasts DX. Haven't copied in years but would like to get back into at least the code. Thank you, sincerely, Dave Huffman (Son of late W9MYE)

I just passed my code test last week and my General Class test last night. I don't really feel I know anything yet. I don't have a radio because I used this to motivate me to learn CW and get my General Class. Now, I am ready for a radio. I plan on using CW and I thank you for putting together all this information. I just scanned it quickly and I will be back to read and learn from you. Thanks again. 73 KG4JCS

Enjoyed ur site. I entered ham radio 3 years ago as a tech plus, but did not have a vhf rig, olny an old ft-101 so was locked into the hf novice bands for abt. a year. Beleave me, it was the best thing that could have happened to me. My cw speed increased as I worked other stations in novice bands, then when I advanced to general class, still worked cw there. It had grown on me. What a wonderful world in the morse operators realm. I have never had a bad qso, or come across a heated argument like I hear on the voice bands. Now am extra class, (prior to lic. changes), and run arround 35 to 40 wpm, just like talking in another language as you mentioned. To those who are learning or increasing there cw skills, please keep at it. You will find a side of ham radio that has always intrigued myself and thousands before me. You cheat yourself be ignoring this fasinating mode. And besides, It's a way cool feeling on Field Day as the non-cw ops gather around you at the transmitter nodding there heads in a knowing manor as you rack up the points. HIHI. Just had to throw that in there. 73 to all and best wishes to everyone this holiday season. John; N4UX

WOW I can tell you love to ragchew by how much you've got here. Got here from Mich Traffic Net site, I really had to dig to start getting info on cw but now I just hit paydirt and spent so much time reading your site I forgot to practice for my test nxt wk, oops. cw's pretty to listen to. I downloaded "The Mill" yesterday and copied Robert E. Lee's Farewell Speach to his Troop at 8wpm--a jump from 5wpm of the mushy sounding code of my learning tapes, with 2 different tv stations going, kids bickering and hubby yacking on the telephone nearby. I thought the words remeberance, countrymen, and the other long words would never quit sending. I'm saving the U-S Constitution for when I hit 20. Funny thing, I was reading about you're cw cat when The X Files mentioned Morse Code. I had heard blip-blips from the background of the show but dismissed it because I have put such a wallop of code on my brain that I hear it in my head all the time. Gotta go nw, have to save something to say in my first contact, hope it's u. 73 de kc8off

Thank you so much for your insights and guidance in the beginners' manual for CW. It is really quite common sense oriented from what I have read so far. I am just investigating getting into Amateur Radio and do not have a license or equipment as yet. I work as a Senior Technician at a long distance company in Chicago at one of their largest switching sites and possess a GROL w/ship radar and a two-year vocational in Avionics with some experience years ago in Air Force avionics that dates back to when they were still teaching tube technology, but using mostly discreet components including transistors with very limited use of early IC's. I have a lot to learn, but what impresses me the most as I am discovering HAM is the way Amateur groups and clubs support community emergency communications, sporting events, and the fact that home-built equipment is a real possibility, including self-engineered rigs. I think I would like to go that route in time, possibly beginning with a simple antenna/RX combo, with a TX unit to follow after updating or refreshing my skills and procuring a license. I want to include Morse Code in my skillset, because that is the original method of communicating this way and because I think it could be useful in other emergencies and utilize simpler equipment. Your manual looks like it will be a big help with usage, etiquette, and effiency. One again, thank you! Dan Stafford
